Oil Catch Tank!!

Postby eddie » Tue Oct 19, 2004 11:58 am

Yes More Tricks:

D.I.Y Oil Catch Tank:

Under normal driving condition oil in the engine build up slowly and and air goes back into the air intake to reuse the air.

But under exteme or nut case condition like us  the pressure build up alot faster and rather than just pasing air into the system it pass a ShXt load if engine oil back as well which will redue the burning of fuel which mean: Lower performance and higher fuel consumption.

Ok so they made this thing call the oil catch tank to seprate the air and the oil that from the engine and let only air back the system.

Outside e.g AutoBarn sell them for around $80 - $90.

I will tell you how to do the same thing for around $10.

you will need a metal (METAL) can,
Plastic hose around 30CM,
1 hoses clips,
Toliet paper.

(1). Find a cool place in the engine bay which you can put the can. Cool = Cold, not look!!!
(2). Measure the hoses lenght.
(3). Pinch a hole in the can which the hose can get in about half way.
(4). Put another hole on top of the can.
(5). Jam some toliet paper in the can which can fill the can around 10%.
(6). Remove the orginial holes and put the new one in and tighten with clips.

Notes to remember:

The Can must be metal.
The orginial holes can be remove and the inlet on the air filter and be left emtpy.

Yeah definately make sure can is a can and not a plastic water bottle.
Also rather than toilet paper (?!?) use the foam
you can by to replace in air filters (they sell it for
replacing in some after market cage style filters.
Its cheap and can be stuffed into the bottle and pulled out and rung out for draining the bottle.
One of those hiking style aluminium drink bottles
are good, as their light so easier to mount, and drill
too.
Also, where your plug is at the top it doesnt hurt to
put a small filter like your red one   (thats peeping out from under the massive frying pan air filter).
Oh, and lets not forget to drain this oil catch can out every now and then,

you can also stuff it with steel scourers instead, it apparently works well.

From the book that I copy this idea from the guy in there actually use the cotton tips things like the tempon female thing to put it in. They say it is good because it is cotton so it breath and it take the oil quickly, second because it have the little cotton line attach to it so when doing the cap it can tight it with the cap and be easily remove when needed.

But that their idea. no offence ladies.
