hehehe Do a search , theres a post with photos and how to "fix" the problems... I had same thing. Though had changed the bulbs.

Boost guage:
Basically the soldering on the boost guage cracks due to age etc, simple fix once your orientated... though with mine it had a tendency to work sometime and others not at all... I had a spare and each had the problem which even after fixing re-appeared majorioty of the time... prob poor solder fixing on my behalf. :?

Dash lights.
To put it bluntly the plastic dash after nearly twenty years of heat and shock, crumbles ad cracks.... when replacing bulbs, be SO sO SO careful... it will just crumble away. Also mine had shorted somewhere difficult/irritating to attempt to fix as its what I'd call a printed circuit onto flexible plastic.... :(

The lights for my speedo didn't work when I got my car. The above information about crumbly plastic and shorting also applied to mine, so I think I've just run a wire from the back of one of the speedo lights to elsewhere on the back of the cluster.

Not elegant but does the job.

Getting the cluster out is heaps of fun, and putting it back in is even worse.
I hope you have nimble hands.

this is not quite possible on cabs or T2s?? ive tried doing this but cant remove the plastic cover to reach in for the last two screws, as it is in one piece to the dash where aircon holes are?? :(

yes it is entirely possible ive had instrument clusters in and out on all of the citys ive owned,it may help to have a look at the picture in the manual to see if there is any screws that you have missed.
dont give up so easily.

agreed, your missing a screw. Probably the one right underneath that holds it all in place.

As turbocab said, re-check the blueprints for where all the screws are, black on black makes it hard to see. Cabriolet or T2, both the same.

That ticking was probably your fuel pump starving for power.
