windscreen replacement

Postby Brendan » Thu Apr 08, 2004 12:21 pm

Has anyone had a windscreen replaced on their city?  What kind of money can I expect to pay?  What about getting one from a wrecker and having a glass guy remove transport and fit it - or is that a stupid idea  ::)

Safe to assume the N/A city has the same windscreen as a turbo city?

thanks guys

Probably not expensive to buy new.  They are the same as a NA city...

gettn someone in to replace one
should be about 60 squid if you can remove the busted one and cler up the goo mess yourself.

my brother recently removed his windscreen,
came out nice from the seals and goo etc.
just about to lift out and it shattered...covering him, his paint, dash, and sets /carpet with glass, HAHAHA.

...hows the rubber seals!?

Well lets just say this..

My city cost $1800. They sold it to us with the broken windscreen replaced with a new one for $2000.

so your looking about $200 for both parts and placment.

(Or I could of been screwed over, oh well)

Just cut the old one out with a guitar wire and put a second hand one in yourself, its easy (even a nutter like me can do it) I've had to do it on a city, a crx, an hq holden, and a corolla. The city was the easiest cause its small and I could do it by myself.

The old windscreen and seals are in the bin.  We could'nt get the windscreen out without it cracking but had to take it out as there was a little rust around it which needed to be fixed.  I'm going to get some prices tomorow so I'll reply with the results later in the week.

thanks for the responses!

Join RAA and get one a year for free .
Had a recent quote to remove rust around screen and repaint roof for around $400 plus $200 if screen breaks .
cant be that bad .Apparently buggars of things to replace according to panelbeaters anyway

Just to follow up, Windscreens O'Brien gave me a huge sale pitch offering discounts and all sorts of crap and came to $235.  Novus quoted $220 with all seals, fitted.

I requested it for a 84' Honda City as it should be the same.

OK, does your windscreen (looking from an angle) have vertical lines you can see built into the screen? It's like an anti fog thingimy... well, you won't get one of them if they break your windscreen. When i got work on my Cabriolet, they quoted $1800 for a new WINDSCREEN! They didn't break it, but it wasn't even as good as the T2 screen (with those vertical thingimy's)! I don't wanna think about the price of a genuine T2 windscreen!!! Probably 1/2 the price of your car.

id do the guitar wire trick - pretty easy - clean out the channels - go find a tidy one at the wreckers - buy a tube of sikaflex windscreen ($24) and slap it in - stick in the trim and let it set - easy - you have sore hands for an hour or so tho....

but finding a decent one at the wreckers, managing to get it out without breaking it then transporting and installing without breaking it is'nt going to be worth our while.
