TURBO 2 CABRIOLET ??

i have made a deposit on this car and in need of your opinion on this car.

-do you guys think this car is stock turbo?
-wheres the intercooler and air intake? and will it be fine without them?


or any other comments wld be cool =)

having owened a turbo cabrolet (hence the name turbocab) ide say no its not a stock turbo you would think that the factory turbo cabrolets if they were ever actually produced would have been fitted with a turbo2 steering wheel.
you can check to see if the wiring loom is full of joins to tell if its original or not.
looks like it has been run without either an air filter or intercooler,you can see the intake pipe from the turbo on the left of the rocker cover with its little mesh bit inside the tube.
personally i would steer away from the cabs having owned both ide go for a t2 hands down any time.

this car seems to have no unusual joins in wiring loom.

is it ok to be driven without intercooler + air intake??



just few more Qs about your car Matt. is your one factory turbocab?

and can i ask you why? you wld steer away from the cabs?

If your going to buy something that has been run with no intake filter, then const in the price of redoing turbo/engine because of it.

And it won't be factory turbo, the cars history makes no mention of being a turbo when imported into the country.

yea it dont even mention wether it was cabriolet or not in the history.. haha

we agreed on $2000 + shipping it to auck.
do you think its ok price?

well i will have to look at the car to properly tell this but what sort of work do you think the car will need by looking at the photo?

im in a need of every help i can get =)

Couldn't you swap the entire T2 wiring loom into a cab?

I saw that on trademe and wondered. Does it have the engine number on the chassis plate in Cities? If so then you would just need to check if it said ER-5 on that, and if it did that the VIN matched the chassis one.

Mate the wiring loom is used from the T2, but it needs to be spliced into the cab wiring for things like;

- windscreen wipers,
- rear break lights/blinkers etc.

Boostboy always says they made a limited number of Turbo Cabriolet's. My personal opinion is this isn't the case.

In my years and years of research, i never found ANY brochures or info on a FACTORY TURBO CABRIOLET.

There are a few around, but i think they are all conversions.

Another thing is;

The T2 was made from 84-86 ish (pushing it), with the last of the T2's having an analog dash, not digital.

The cab was made in 86-88 ish. Wouldn't the turbo cab's have these latest model analog dash's? Surely they would. But every turbo cab i've seen has an older, T2 digital dash.

This tells me they are indeed conversions.

The Analog dash although may seem older technology, is way more reliable long term. And thats what honda's reputation is built on. Reliability.

Why do you have to splice in for these? The T2 had them as well...

I ran my old t2 with no intercooling and only some wire mesh covering the intake pipe (while cautiously avoiding the countryside and generally dusty environments) and ran sweet as... just airflow over the head seemed to keep it reasonably cool

Itll run fine, Colza and I have done it on my car too, when we had the T04 because there wasn't room for a filter.

However, its a really bad idea because even with mesh you will suck in grit and stuff that will score your cylinders and get in your oil. As well as increasing your chance of burning a valve. so DONT DO IT KIDS :lol:

Not sure why you would take off the intercooler, but if you remove the air filter it sounds pretty cool :lol:

what about the intercooler? ive seen numbers of T2 photos on this site and they didnt have them??

doesnt it slow the car down? sucking in all that hot air??? :o

hehe yup thats why I stressed the DONT DO IT KIDS int he post above.

DODO, the losses from sucking in hot air would probably be countered by the reduction in restriction from not having the filter and pipe and stuff on.

Removing the intercooler has no purpose, will just make the car slower.
