mysterious grinding noise when turning?

Postby TURBOCITYCITY » Mon Oct 06, 2008 9:56 am

hi all
my t2 has recent begun making suspicious noising during some turning maneuvers even when reversing.. it's difficult to describe but when reversing and turning out right it makes an odd kinda slight grinding noise from the right wheel area.. almost sounds like a gear that's lacking lubrication but I'm not sure.. thought it could be a cv but that's normally more of a clicking sound so leaves me thoroughly perplexed.
also when corning left at speed the rear left makes a terrible groaning noise which is worrisome to say the least.. -also- occasionally hear from that area weird tinkering noises like there's some terrible cancer rust falling out of inside the body when shaken.. atleast this seems the most plausible explanation. oh dear.

any ideas or has anybody experienced anything vaguely similar to this?

Sounds like you have farked wheel bearings. Mine made horrible grinding noises when they were on the way out.

Are CV's more of a poping sound, rather than a grinding?

cv's generally go clicky clicky!
wheel bearings go grindy crunchy and make a low bass'y humm at speed.
i know replace both!
