GA2 Turbo Imposter

Postby Norledge » Wed Nov 26, 2008 7:46 pm

Hi... Been viewing this forum for a while now, just thought i'd make myself know...

Building a little budget track car to join my fleet...

Here's my progress thread for my own site...

Thought i might post up a few pics of my current toy... 1991 Honda City PGM-FI CZi :P

It's a 1.3 SOHC 16v, 100bhp (book power) and 680kg (again book weight).

The CZi came with a Cussco LSD as standard, and A/C :P

I'll keep this thread updated with the progress :)

Well from finally getting it out on track, i know now...

A) It's still factory limited to 110mph

B) It's AWESOME out of the corners (pushing 90% of big power stuff in the bends)

C) It REALLY looses out on the straights

D) Corners like its on rails, but body roll is silly!!!

The answer???

Coilovers and BOOOOOOOOOOOST :P

Weighed it this morning...

Partially stripped, half tank of petrol

672kilos

Also now decided it doesnt need the civic brakes... it was locking up at combe, with its lack of weight i don't think big brakes will do anything.

Just going to replace it with some decent spec standards... if i can find any...

Just ordered a short shifter from america... £15 including taxes... guess we'll see

Sooooo... after the i bodged the standard rad fan onto a civic rad (which is a good 3 inches bigger both ways) the fan sliced through the bottom hose...

Went for a walk over to forge motor sport (litterly accross the road from me) and traded £80 for this little lot...

Image

Normal retail would have been £130 plus VAT... BARGIN

Also got another civic rad from work and mounted a 9 inch slimline fan to it...

Image

So now hopfully the cooling system is sorted...

Quickshift also fitted, makes a HUGE difference!

Next??? Blue h/t leads to match the pipes

More progress today... bye bye A/C

Image

Image

Good 15kg there i think

Dash has come out (only so i can sort out the aweful wiring) as has the carpet and most of the sound deadening

Also got round to fitting the OMP bonnet pins, so now i can chop the slam panel off to make way for the BOOOOST

Ahhhhhh... Herroooo...

Image

After me and Alex had a quick session between rain showers yesterday we came up with this...

Image

Image

Just a rough idea of the layout... oil cooler sat in play in the wing and turbo roughly where it will sit (you'll be able to see it through the bumper... PIMP)

Playing with a few intercoolers later :D

Booost...

Image

Won't be quite so sticky outy :P

Nothing much happening at the moment...

Spun the impellor housing round so the outlet goes stright up...
Image

Also welded the internal wastegate shut...
Image

Left to do... Fabricate a downpipe, pipe in the internal fuel tank, buy and work out all boost piping, oh, and fit the new engine :P

Glup...

Image

Been doing some major headscratching over the past couple of day... working out compression ratios.

In Basic form, the 1.5 CR is 9.6:1 (The Block i'm using)

The 1.6 is 9.2:1 (The VTEC head i'm using)

Combining the 1.5 block with the 1.6 head give me approx 8.8:1

Now i've been told on a small engine like this, the CR to aim for is 8:1... Using a 1.2mm Decompression plate will bring it down to 7.8:1... which i have a feeling may be a tad laggy...

Been a tad slow... bit of progress...

Motasport rims innit...

Switchboard...

More stuff...

  • Finish Removing Engine and Box
  • Remove all excess from engine bay
  • Bypass heating system
  • De-tar footwells
  • Put the front bumper on a diet
  • Wire in ECU
  • Make mounts for i/c, oil cooler and rad
  • Mount battery
  • Remove OE fuel tank
  • Plumb in internal tank
  • Mount and wire in the new 'dash'
  • Tidy wiring loom
  • Clean it
  • Down the scrappie and find a fuel pump
  • Fit said fuel pump
  • Work out how to fit headlights no there is a intercooler in the way

1. Awesome project, Ive always thought one of those would make an awesome race car, sa damn light!

2. Can you get me an LSD from a CZi? Im mad keen even.

3. What are you doing for coil over? For the front at least you have a very similar setup to the 1st gen city guys.

and for anyone that was wondering, the large gaps are just gaps, not images that failed to load like I thought :P

Keep the progress coming, I like how you waited till you had a good amount of it before posting, keeps it interesting. Will be watching this closely!

UK City 2ndGen for sale

Postby classichondasrule » Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:17 pm

well it's black but i saw it on ebay about 5 months back first, then on http://www.carandclassic.co.uk it looks nice, bet you could save some weight by getting rid of the electric sunroof. although that can be tricky.
your City looks a lot of FUN! 8)

Lol the gaps are spaces between posts on another site :P

The coilovers (or normal shock/spring set up, not yet decided) will be coming custom from http://www.gaz-shocks.co.uk...

As classichonda said, i've only even seen 2 in the country, so chances of finding a diff are VERY slim :P

I'm aiming for 170bhp and 600 kilos... better power to weight ratio then most stuff i know ;)

ga2

Postby classichondasrule » Thu Nov 27, 2008 12:51 am

that would be cool but i've just bought a 1stGen Jazz with less than 10000 miles on it (as a good shell ) and good cheap transport for now.
that Ga2 is a bit over my price range at the moment.
I'm still addicted to the 1stGen city's for a while yet
 :? :)
