turbo timer.

I know this has been covered and iv seached and read the few threads on it but still dont understand.

Its just a basic 3 wire one.
Iv hooked the power and earth up. Does nothing with just these two so I hooked the 3rd wired up to the ignition wire.
Black with yellow striped. (theres 2 of these wires)
With the first one when I turn the car off all that happens if the timer counts down and engine turns off straight away with the key.
With the second one they engine still turns off like the other wire but the dash stays on.

What else can I try?

Sorted wasn't putting out enough power had to use a relay instead.
