Rising Rate Fuel Pressure

Has anyone had any experience in fitting a rising rate fuel reg to a city? I want to boost a bit higher than the 15lbs recommended to keep away from lean out. I read somewhere that rising rates are not a very accurate at giving more fuel, something to do with a motor needing fuel non-linearly but the fuel reg only going up linearly but if you run it a bit rich it would at least give you a slight increase in power I think. Any ideas would be a great help.  ;D

get bigger injectors and a programmabel ecu, that would cure your fuel probs ;)

put in some b20a injectors and a vl holden fuel pump :)

Thanks for the ideas guys. LordNafe if you have a read of similar topics you'll find that there is quite a bit of difficulty involved in installing an aftermarket ECU because of the CVCC injector. Qiklude, i've already got a h22a prelude fuel pump in there so it has the capacity for extra flow, i might try and get my hands on some b20 injectors, Storng for Honda over here in Auckland said they had a set for about $60 if I can remeber rightly so I might give them a whirl.

If you have a good fuel pump (read new VL/XE pump) you should find 17-20 psi on stock injectors and ECU with fuel cut lifter is fine. Just make sure you I/C is good and your motor and turbo are in good condition. I would not recommend going over 20psi for stock motor and would comment that 17psi is about the best for longivity.

Hey charles!

Looks like you have given some little ER turbos some hard work, what poped first when given a massive bit of boost?

Im just rebuild a motor now, so if theres some simple things to do I will do them..

As long as you keep an eye on fuel, timing and detonation they are pretty good. The first thing to always go, providing everything else is OK, is head gasket. I fit ARP head studs then screw it up a whole lot tighter than stock.

Oh yeah Nitrous is a no no, only time I have killed a block (burnt a hole through the cylinder wall, the forged pistons were OK though.

Also with forged slugs, ARP rod bolts, ARP head studs and a different turbo 26psi is no probs. Make sure you use some sort of boost retard timing device like jacobs boost master etc.

Any dyno power chart for that sort of mods?

I will definatly be porting the head a smidge and raising the compression with my nice fresh motor, but nothing to extreme.
I have my other turbo honda for that :)

Have you used a non standard ECU on one of your city motors?

Hi charles.

i would like to enquire you about the after market cams and spocket.

I want to do up my car properly as i am in WA. I am now running 1 bar boost with front mount intercooler , airfilter, standard turbo, straight pipe exhaust.

what other things do u recommend next? I have bought a set of prelude injectors and fuel regulator.

you help will be appreciated.

These motors are limited by their valve sizes. Pull a head off and check them out. Nothing a bit more boost cannot sort out.

I have a dyno plot. The power is reasonable with 140hp @ the wheels (not bad considering the stocker came with 110hp @ the flywheel. The torque is where you notice it though With 26psi of boost and the long stroke these things have comparable tractive effort (the way torque is measured on the dyno) to a strong V8. Even with the city strapped down hard to the dyno it was peeling rubber on the rollers.

Arnold,

Get the thing on a dyno and plot fuel ratio against torque or power. Check for any dips and bumps. If the thing is over rich or over lean throughout the rev range increase or decrease fuel pressure to suit. If there are dips, bumps and power holes then get some adjustable fueling (Apexi AFC) and sort them out. If you can get the thing running a little bit on the leaner side (but still safe off boost it will spool up much quicker).

Try Chris Thomas, CT on this board. I gave him the rights to sell the ECU pinouts, wiring diagram, vacuum diagrams service limits, fault code diagnosis, bolt torque specs etc that have all been translated from the Japanese manual. I used to sell the info for $150. I would only get an AFC if you have significant holes in your fueling.
