Cat converter

Postby CITY_SLICKER » Thu Jun 26, 2003 12:52 am

hey there everyone.
i am soon goin to upgrade the exhaust on my T2. im thinking about a 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent system. i have read all of the posts about exhaust upgrading and everyone says to remove the cat converter. i am told tho that it is illegal to remove the cat. does anyone know if this is true or not? i live in south australia if the law varies from each state.

cheers.

In Nz there is no law against the removal of the cat...

If the car is pre86 then you can turf it.  Otherwise, putting a larger cat further down the exhaust would be much, much better than the stock cat which is an absolute power robber.

surely you can just bash the insides out then it becomes a cast iron resonator.... or do they do emissions testing

The first thing i did was gut the stock cat.  It went a bit better but the main restriction is in the cat entry which is a tight, small bend.  Sounded crap too...

Much better off with the new dump..
