Engine mounts
Yo,
where can I get an engine mount from.
The centre one; from the rear engine bay to above gearbox bit.
Or, how can I fix the existing one with no rubber in it.
(sling blade---"Aint goot naw rerber init").
Im in Brisbane if someone wants to help on a weekend.
It looks bloody fiddly to get to...
An theres more work I need help with/sorted by someone competant/experience.
...read the message on "what the hells this noise" for more....

Re: Engine mounts
Hey dude.
I found a neat way to "renew" your old engine mounts.
What it involves is taking the mount out, clean it, and then squirt new rubber into the mount, leave it to dry for 48hours and volla! (better than factory)
With this you can stiffen up your old mounts and make the car feel more responsive as well.
It works for any sorta car with rubber style mounts as well.
Im using it on my city, pgnutas, and also on my 300hp prelude with no problems
The magic stuff you need is found at a auto windscreen installers, you want a tube of the black rubber they use for holding the glass in your car.
or a product like 3m window weld ....
Ive got some other stuff here cant remember what its called?
But its a form of rubber ureathane, so its hard as hell but still flexi's , horrid stuff to get off ya if it dries
anyway, take the mount out, clean it, and then fill in all the holes in it with the goo and leave it to dry for 12/ 48 hours... and hey presto! better than new!!
only cost me $12 for a tube that did 3 cars as well
I can take photos of a spare mount ive got sitting here thats been done if u wish.
Any questions?
Hope this helps!

Re: Engine mounts
I did a simular thing for the top mount of my car, but used vac hose and a bit of welding wire to hold the rings together. It was a tight fit getting it back in, but the engine won't move and send a big bang through the drive train like it used to.

Re: Engine mounts
Cool.
it would be cool if you can post how much of the mount needs to be taken off. :)
well any pics of the process would be cool.
How much works involved in gettin it off. ie: whats gotta come off to get to it?
I changed the vacumn advance the other day, and had to remove the intercooler and piping but the mount seems to be still under there, so what s the general process.
Is it necessary to put a jack/stand under the engine ?
spose the same can be done to the other mounts right?
how many are there?
PS...can you give me advice on my next post "whats this noise???"

Re: Engine mounts
hey dude.
will take some picys tommorow.
Top answer your Q's
No you dont really need to prop the motor.
yes u take out the mount - unhook from engine and firewall.
with the mount, you just push the rubber "ring" out of the end on the motor. fill the gaps then push back in.
Once you have it apart it becomes clearer...
intercooler and such would have to come out for access to it i guess.
and yes other mounts can be done.

Re: Engine mounts
Today I got a spare rear mount/torque stay thing.
Its from a normal CityProT (I got T2), but its the same thing......right??
Its wierd, whe n it was in the car it felt loose, same amount of movement as mine. Got it Out and the larger rubber end comes out but it looks undamaged, no bits have fallen off...its just loose?!?
what up with that?
So when I get some form of rubberurathanesilicon stuff
should I just fill in the existing gaps it has (moulded into design of rubber bit) then fill in the sapce which makes it loose so it cant move?! thats seems best thing for
no engine bump/shifting.
recommend a product here?!?!
cheers dudes.

Re: Engine mounts
Smithy, I have a new rubber insert here and they are loose as you describe, I wrapped some small diameter rubber fuel hose around the grooves in the old one and put it back. Works better than a new one. Henry

Re: Engine mounts
they are way to loose from factory if you ask me!
Just get some form of polyurethane in a tube, easy to get from your local windscreen shop.
3m windows weld or a black tube called silkatack or something similar is what I used.
And yes, just fill in the the holes, make the whole mount as solid as

Re: Engine mounts
Yeah, mine's doing that too. Bit of a pain eh?! :-/
I tried some bits of a plastic bottle around the outside of the rubber bush on T3, but haven't done anything on my T2 yet.
The polyurethane stuff sounds just the job, but I might try Henry's approach first!

trust me eh, your wasting your time if you try and fill the mount with "insert some crap here" ... cause it just wears it out and is NO WHERE as good as the polyurathane.
Ive had to pull crap out of the last city I bought, it was spiral wound with inso-tape, just a black sticky gooey mess.

Re: Engine mounts
So does that mean its the same mount from a CIty Pro T
for the T2??
Hmm, I'll get som eof those products on weekend I hope!
Hey another point, the rubber 'joiner' between turbo and air filter pipe has split all around barely holding on...
what internal diameter silicon intercooler hose do I need to replace that with???
or any other rubber hose, what internal size needed
CHEERS!!!

Yeah I didnt say it wouldnt work, BUT
Im always after max power, and I hate to loose torque through the motor flopping aorund.
My other car is VERY good at throwing the motor around, and busting engine mounts..... so after remaking all the mounts it drives like a completely different car!
Much better throttle response, no drivetrain wreakage etc etc...
the only downside is the fact if you do several mounts is you will get more vibration rattles, really noticable if my cars cold, the headlights rattle now!
Both me and pgnuta have done just the top mount in the city (old $200 jobs.) and the difference it makes
Anyway dude, keep up the good work!

Re: Engine mounts
Qiklude,
What do you mean? Take the rod out and fill it with the filler thing? What?
Would you need an actual rubber insert to fill out the gaping hole, then add the rubber/plastic thing.
Mine's busted to a million pieces. Feels awful when i drop down a gear.
Can you clear it up for me please?
Cheers,
Chhun.

Re: Engine mounts
no worries dude...
when I did my first one, I pulled the mount out and the steel bush type bit that the bolt goes through to hold it on the motor fell out in my hand..
They bush is covered in a sort of grooved rubber so all we did was coat it in enough selant and stuffed it back into the mount posi were it came from.
clean off the excess goo and let it dry.
I will take the work camera home tonight and take a couple of picks of a spare one I have done at home.
we did tims (pgnutas) one while the mount was still roughly in place on the car even ::)
Will post up picys tonite anway, once you see the finished item it becomes real clear :D
