cylinder head exchangeability

Postby crooky » Thu Nov 27, 2003 9:09 am

I was wondering to what degree the T1 and T2 cylinder heads are interchangeable.  I have a T1 that needs a new head and the possibility of getting a T2 head.  Are they interchangeable?  I know that they have a few different parts that make up the valves.  Is this an issue?  If they are interchangeable, what other considerstions are there for doing a swap between the two.  Also, if a cylinder head that was previously in good running order has been sitting around for a couple of years, are the valves and seals etc still likely to be ok?  Thanks.  Joel

Must be pretty much right as I used a City "E" (as they are in NZ - same as Aus Pro) head on the T2. Had to do minor work to get the rocker cover to fit, but shouldn't need this on a T1 head. May be different compression, but don't think so  :-/

Completely interchangeble between T1 and T2.

The valve parts are even interchangeble between the two. Use the T2 cam and all other gear tha comes with it, including and especially the T2 oil pump drive gear.

Yeeaah!  Thanks Charles.  P.S.  R U from Canberra?  I'm moving there in January.  I just accepted a PE teaching position at Canberra Grammar school.
