VL Fuel pump question

Postby city_cabriolet » Tue Mar 02, 2004 1:40 pm

Hi All,

I'm looking at getting a VL fuel pump as my T2 replacement, now the local shop says the VL has 2 pumps! Anyone know of which one is the correct one?
Any part numbers you can find would make it much easier for me.

Cheers,
Luke.
PS. There's an internal fuel pump and an external, the external is $240.

is everyone else's fuel hose a little clear rubber tube?
so the fuel pump is from a VL v6 "hight pressure" external pump.

Also, where can i find it? i took the in-side lining off rear left and couldn't see it, do i have to remove false floor of
hatch to get to it?

look in the inside left rear wheel well under the car. Has a cover over it held on by a few bolts, fitment of the vl pump is pretty straightforward and is pretty much a straight swap option.
cheers

I had a minor problem fitting mine.  I had to shorten the output fuel line to stop it kinking.  This was done simply by removing the nut and hose on the end of the metal line, adding a shorter peice and attaching that to the fuel pump output.

Are these a suitalbe replacement to run more boost or should i be going bigger. I'm guessing that i don't need to run a regulator with the VL pump?   MATTY

ANY fuel system has to have a regulator, even if it is there only to balance out the funky backpressures caused by boost and vacuum.

I might have to have a look into this then, my prelude pump is practically deafening! It sits just under the back seats and makes a hell of a racket!!!

Hey Colza,

Yeah man, when i first turned the key, i thought the mechanic hadn't fixed it properly because i didn't hear the pump prime itself ;-) (only in comparison with the old one, when it's real stull i can hear it, but it's certainly alot quieter than before).

I just hear a high pitched whistle out of mine.  Not nearly as loud as the old one however.

My brothers got a Bosch motorsports fuel pump, a right
big mo'fo,  would there be any benefits swapping standard with this!?
